Professional development model for nursing in cancer control

The professional development model presented on our homepage describes nurses' varying contributions to all phases of the cancer continuum, outlining the competency standards required of nurses working in different roles, in different settings and at different points along the continuum.

According to this model, all nurses, regardless of practice setting, are likely to have contact with people affected by cancer and will require some level of capability in cancer control. Some nurses will require specialised and/or advanced competencies in cancer control.

While the dynamic and complex nature of contemporary practice environments means it is not possible to provide clear definitions of the scope of nursing practice or discrete levels of practice, four broad groups of nursing services are defined in our framework amd the EdCaN resources have been developed to cater for these four broad groups.
